Manual car dropping gears

Hi

I have a Skoda Octavia MK3, 2016, 1 litre petrol. Manual transmission with 145k km on clock.

While driving in 6th gear on motorway, sometimes when I accelerate the small display screen behind steering wheel shows the car dropping to 5th gear (despite the gear stick being in 6th position) and the revs go quite high (as if I was indeed in lower gear).

Another issue is sometimes when I start car the revs going quite high, while still in neutral and before i have moved, then after 30 seconds to 1 minute it drop back to normal.

Not sure if these are connected. Really concerned it's a computer issue and will cost fortune.

Grateful for any advice.

Thanks

All cars warm up upon initial startup. A cold engine requires a more fuel-rich engine (engineers term this as running rich) and the RPMs must be higher than normal for around 30 seconds (it takes longer if it's even colder). Once it's warmed up and not under load, it's running at the ideal fuel ratio, 14.7 parts air per one part fuel).

Is your manual transmission starting to slip? It can appear to be in gear, but if you're kind of a lousy stick driver (not putting the clutch all the way to the floor, resting your hand on the shifter column). It's not computer related, hence the term, manual transmission. Something always maintains a physical connection (the clutch) unless you push it down. There's no computer for that.

Thanks Justin.

Very happy to know re the high revs at start. More than happy to wait the extra few seconds until revs return to normal before setting off.

Re the gears issue, I'm not sure I'm too bad re shifting and thankfully have arm rest so don't put arm on the stick. I've never had this happen before on previous cars and its only started recently and only for 6th gear. Could the issue be the gearbox itself and its only slipping down from 6th to 5th?

I've never change the manual transmission fluid.

Thanks again

One thing I forgot to add, after it drops to 5th on screen and revs increase, it reverts back go 6th when I ease back on accelerator.
