Manual shifting poorly

Hey Scotty and team. I recently changed my gearbox oil in my 03 Mazda protege, was definitely full as oil was coming out of the drain hole. Now it's shifting strange. Sometimes when I change gear, it won't go all the way in, so I have to go back to neutral, then clutch again and hope it goes into gear. Sounds like a slave cylinder problem but it only came now that I've replaced the oil. What could be wrong?

It is really easy to underfill a transmission because the lubricant is so thick.  You think it's full because it's coming out the FILL hole, but because of it's viscosity, it takes a while to get down through the gears and synchros.  Check the manufacturers specifications for the correct amount and make sure it takes it all.  I usually remove the shift lever and trans cover plate and add the oil from the top making sure it all goes in so I don't have to worry about underfilling the trans.

You put fake gear oil in

It was Castrol 75w 85 bought from Supercheap auto, Castrol is pretty reputable, don't think it would be fake

When it's full. oil comes out the Fill hole, not the Drain Hole.  Are you sure you put in the correct recommended lubricant and that it actually was filled?  I would check the nylon shift bushing at the base of your shift lever to see if it's worn or not correctly seated.

Yes was the fillhole, I mixed up my words. Fully drained, and fully filled again
