Hey scotty i have a 2012 ford focus se automatic with 42,600k miles i just wanted to know around what mileage does a car need a throttle body and mass air flow sensor cleaning ? One of my good mechanics said i dont have to worry about that until about 100k miles is this true ?
It is good advice. One thing I would mention is be SUPER careful handling the MAF sensor. They are easy to break and replacing one is a bit of a pain.
Yes. You really shouldn't worry about it until it starts causing problems.
But if you're like me, I tend to clean my "air metering" sensors every 10k miles. I generally don't touch the throttle body until I have to.
Your mechanic is right. The less you touch that stuff, the better. If you keep taking things apart and putting them back together, you'll break something eventually.
Agreed with the above answers. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". If everything is fine (car runs good, good mileage, easy starts) leave it be. As Scotty has said time & time again...there's so much plastic under the hood where there's a tremendous amount of heat that degrades plastic in time. It's not a matter of IF it'll break, it's WHEN!
On the other hand...if you're wanting to "see" how the engine is doing, have a mechanic read the live data. That'll give you the answer you're looking for!
