[Solved] Mazda 3 vs Toyota Corolla vs Honda Civic (2020 - 2022) in EU

Hello,

For the past months I have been debating about buying a new car (well, not now, in the ''future'' when cars prices drop - I hope-). Right now I have a toyota corolla 1.6l petrol (Valvmatic) with 132 hp (EU, build in Turkey) with about 104 000 KM (not miles) and it is a manual (NO turbo, NOT a hybrid, NO CVT, ect.) I love it, but I kindaaa want an automatic (can't stall lol)

I'm a huge Honda, Toyota-Lexus and Mazda fan... But, after watching videos from Scotty I feel like I'm a bit ''stuck'' when it comes to my decisions haha...

I want a car that's between 2020 and 2022 - used cars-. The problem is, I really like the way all of these cars look (Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Mazda 3). BUT..

ALL of them have their ups and downs, since no car is perfect..

I want the Mazda 3, because it has NO turbo, it's NOT a hybrid and the automatic verison has 6 physical gears - not a CVT-. And it just looks amazing... The issue is, there are almost none from where I'm from (so far only found like 7 autoamtics with 150+ hp) and they are kinddaa expensive (23 000 - 31 000 eur). And I know Mazda is better now since they are working with Toyota, but still, some say they are not as reliable... But, all of them are made in Japan and shipped here (I think)

Honda Civis all have about 90 000km on them (or more), there were like 2 automatics I found, but they all have the 1.0l turbo or the 1,5l turbo... and they have a CVT.. But they are not hybrids (Not looking at the new new one, it's from 34 000 euro plus, no ty haha).

And finaly Toyota... Really like them, but... They all have a CVT, they are all Hybrids (they know what they are doing, I know) or they have a small 1.2l turbo that I'm not a big fan of... The prices are from 19 800 and up, most I would pay is 23 000 eur for a 2020 hybrid with 140hp and 60 000 km.

So, what is the best option here, if we take a look at all of the ''stats''?

The Mazda 3, automtic, 150 (or 179) hp, no turbo, not a hybrid, build in Japan, price 23 000 - 25 000?

The honda Civis 1.5l turbo, 184hp with a CVT, a bit expensive (2018 one sold for 23 000 eur) with a bit more km?

Or the Toyota Corolla, 1.8l hybrid, 140hp, CVT 60 000 km, price 22 650 eur and build in EU (Turkey, France or UK, not sure wich one thou)?

P.S I'm 21, don't have a family (kids) so boot space and back head room is not a problem (practicality)

Thank you 🙂 /p>

toyota corolla 1.6l petrol (...) 104 000 KM (...) (NO turbo, NOT a hybrid, NO CVT, ect.)

Great! a very solid car.

I want the Mazda 3

Yea, the Mazda3 is a very good vehicle.

They don't have the greatest reliability, but they're good enough and drive well.

Yea, the 6AT and the 2.0L SkyActive-G is the best configuration on these.

Honda Civis (...) 1.0l turbo or the 1,5l turbo

The 1.0T is not a great engine, reliability is unknown and it's just not an engine I'd get.

The 1.5T is a stretched Honda Jazz engine with a turbo - not great either, they had oil dilution issues, what not.

Toyota (...) CVT (...) all Hybrids

Hybrid CVTs, are eCVTs - no belt here, it's a very reliable transmission.

The issue is the aging of the battery pack - they last 10-15 years regardless of millage.

The 1.8L Atkinson engine is incredibly durable.

Toyota (...) 1.2l turbo

I would not go that route.

PS. in Europe car manufacturers state ridiculous service intervals. Although the Toyota 1.6/1.8 can go 15,000km between oil changes quite easily - it's better to replace it, on any car, every 10,000km (at most) to avoid wearing it out.

Thank you very much as always Dan 😀

So, for now, it's better to just keep the car I have, and maybe even for a longer time... Thank you, will do 🙂

I'm close to 10 000 km since my last oil change, will msg my mehanic and get the right oil for the car, before I go there 🙂

Thank you again and rev up your engine 😀

after watching videos from Scotty I feel like I'm a bit ''stuck'

Scotty reviews cars made for American market. Engines here in Europe are different. Toyota's ones do not hold as long as American ones.

For example, my 5 years old Auris has the engine which is designed to wear out at cca 200,000 km. Even American crap cars in Scotty's eyes hold more than that.

Perhaps @dan has more experience with that

A Corolla with a 1.2 doesn’t seem like much fun.

Usually I’d say Corolla naturally aspirated as the top choice.

With this batch, this is my preference, assuming they check out:

Mazda 3 > Honda Civic > Corolla Hybrid> Corolla 1.2.

well, not to hate but... we're talking about Toyotas... not the GR's... they kindaaa can't be fun xD Here, the most hp we can get is like 184ish hp with no turbo (but it's a hybrid)... well, there is also the GR yaris but... I'm not paying 40k for a car....

But yeah, I would pick the Mazda 3... when? idk... maybe in 6 months, a year or 2 ? we'll see xD Thanks thou 🙂
