Mazda 6 2015 Catalytic Converter Failure - Next Steps?

Hi Scotty and all,

I saw your video on Mazda's history, switch a great video. I have a 2015 Mazda 6 with 185,314 miles. Recently, the Engine light went on.

I brought it into the dealer, and the dealer said the error was a Catalytic Converter Failure. The Mazda Dealership said it would cost $2,400.

My question:

* Is there a larger problem with my car, like burning oil, or is it ok to just get it fixed?

Or should I skip the repair and buy a new car?

Thanks!

What was the exact codes/s? Can you please post them here?

Thanks!

The Mazda Dealership said it would cost $2,400.

Get a second opinion from a professional independent mechanic, and then make a decision.

The code points to -

I'd get another car if I were you. Cadillac converters don't go bad by themselves if they need to replace this because something else like an engine is worn in a clogs up the converter and the new converter will also go bad soon

Thank you Scotty!

If there is a problem with the engine like said above (burning oil… etc…) then move on. But if the engine checks out, and you can find a cheaper place to fix the cat, fix the cat. Depending on the state you live in, you may be able to work your way around needing to change it out, though I don’t recommend breaking the law.
