Scotty, what is your opinion on the Mazda CX30? I am thinking about buying one in a year or so.

Mazda makes very good cars and given that the CX30 is built on the Mazda 3 platform you are looking at a pretty stable product.
If you happy with getting 100-200K out of a car you should be just fine with the Mazda. But if you are like Scotty and want to get 300-400K miles out of an automotive appliance, you are probably better off with a Toyota.
Toyota makes very good automotive appliances (we have an 18 year old Camry that still runs like new), but if you are looking for any driving enjoyment at all you will likely prefer the Mazda.
