So it looks like the cylinder deactivation started in Mazda CX5's in 2018. Is that in all trims of the cars with the 2.5L NA engines or just some of the trims?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyactiv#2.5_L

"Skyactiv-G 2.5 engines manufactured from 2018 onwards feature cylinder deactivation to improve fuel efficiency." (period)

"approximately 262,000 Mazda vehicles using the engine were recalled for a faulty powertrain control module that may cause a misfire or a loss in power."

As far as I know yes, it is running what used to be a very solid engine.

Mazda is posting updated engine head schematics for engines with cylinder deactivation in their manufacturer communications - and that's worrying.

Okay, so it looks like, 2014-2017 are all good years for the Mazda CX5 right? As long as it's a 2.5L NA engine? I'm looking at a 2016.
In the videos Scotty approves of a 2014 and a 2017.. so I'm guessing he approves of the ones in between those two?

please don't go unnecessarily reviving old topics. Thanks.
