Hi Scotty,
Why do Mazdas depreciate so quickly? I am the original owner of a 2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring with 80,000 miles. Would selling it for an older Lexus GS350 with similar mileage be a good idea? I want a nice car that lasts.
@ricerroni
GS350 repairs will cost a *lot* more. The engine on that vehicle (with both port and direct injection) was unique and you'll be going to the dealer parts department a lot more (and getting sticker shock at their quotes!; a friend had to replace the fancy air suspension on his LX470--Land Cruiser doesn't have that--many years ago and it cost almost 10 grand!).
Answer to your 1st question: Because of the build quality.
For your 2nd question: Great choice. Definitely, if it is RWD and a mechanic gives OK for that. AWD version (not only for this car), tends to get more expensive for repairs in the future, although this one you are looking at (85k miles), should last a long time. Good luck.
Perceived levels of quality, reliability, service life, and other characteristics, deserved or not, are what drives the resale market and therefore depreciation rates.
Market interest in used Mazda vehicles is far less than other makes and models, which directly affects monetary value levels.
If the existing vehicle still serves the intended purpose, and especially if you have clear title, there would seem to be no reason to make a change.
In fact, making a change may be counter-productive and financially ill-advised, such as going from a good vehicle to an older vehicle with less serviceability or more reliability issues.
But it's your money and certainly your choice.
Lexus!
I would keep it for another 10-15k miles or else you will loose a ton of money. Mazda's last a bit but start to fall apart after 120k miles, just like modern Kia's and Hyundai's. Lexus GS is a much better car and hold resale value much longer.
You have a nice car (maybe not Lexus/BMW/MB nice) that should last and I would hope is paid off.
So my personal thoughts would be why go spending unnecessary money when you pretty much have what you want and need right now
Those mazdas are fine tbh. over time the lexus will cost a little more due to parts premiums. I looked up your mazda if its a 6 speed auto its made by Aisin (Toyota owned)
If you dislike the car, sell at get a camry/accord
