My 2009 BL Mazda3 2.0L auto gasoline with 163,000kms makes a tappet noise & misfire on cold start-up, noise & misfire goes away after few minutes idling then engine performs normally. Fault code P0302 misfire cylinder 2.
I have owned this since new & changed engine oil & filter every 5000kms since warranty expired.
Would you know does my engine have hydraulic or shim-type tappets?

It is the bucket shim type.
Most likely it doesn’t not have hydraulic tappets.
Although this is a technology Mazda had at the time - the LF-DE and LF-VD modifications for the most part were not equipped with it.
As a side note: If what you hear is a ticking noise from the front of the engine, it’s might not be the tappets - usually it’s the swirl flaps and ~100k miles is when they typically fail.
