Hey Scotty,

What do you think about Mercedes Benz moving towards all electric vehicle offerings? Do you think it will improve their long term reliability?

Thanks

No.

I doubt it, as they always find ways to over engineer their systems;  plus, they are new to this whole BEV systems and will take time to work out all the kinks.  Now we are talking about more sensors, computers on board, and even more lines of code.  What can possibly go wrong?  This is true for lots of automakers, and when things go wrong (and they will) you will have to take it in to the dealer and pray they can fix it (good luck with that).  And of warranty, forget it!

The move to electrification is idiotic and unnecessary no matter what manufacturer is involved. I won't be going along with it.

Compared to Vw/Audi, Mazda, and Nissan. No HELLO NO. They are complicated as hell with all the giant screens and seats. Also, I watched some youtube videos including Marques Brownlee reviewing the new EQS, the infotainment systems are kinda laggy and the interface looks like a mismatch of windows 7 and Samsung one UI. I don't rlly have a lot of faith in Mercedes Benz tbh, as I am not a fan of their newer cars.

What does that bloke know about cars?

well, he is a famous tech reviewer with over 13 million subscribers. He does review cars from time to time and gives his impressions and thoughts.

Yep, the only good Mercedes Benz models are made by Renault 👀.
But even there the interior build quality is horrid.

Honestly the only one I like is the G wagon. Its iconic and fairly reliable but parts, maintenance, and repairs are through the roof.

@infinitifxfan idk, the G wagon is it’s still going to cost a fortune to maintain.
The CLA 180d is just a Renault K9K engine with a Volvo MPS7 transmission.
A very solid combo.

I was planing to buy one I found with just over 50k miles, but just felt too much guilt towards my 80k mile Focus wagon I kept in perfect condition still without even a single scratch. Probably have dodged a bullet, the features and design aren’t worth having to mess with Mercedes electronics and costly maintenance.

ahh icic. We sadly don't get the CLA shooting brake or that 180d in Canada since nobody rlly buys diesels here (although my family friend had a 2009 VW Golf TDI which was a great car and then he got a Passat CC with the 2.0T which has been a nightmare). My family has gas and electric cars for the most part but my dad's brother in the UK has a 2013 Skoda Superb Estate with idk what diesel engine it has and a 2018 VW Passat GT plug in, both of which have been good. Before he had a 98 BMW 320i which he sold after hitting a goat.
