It's Mercedes so as Scotty calls them, endless money pit.

I would pass on that car. A 21 year old Mercedes-Benz is going to turn into a money pit. The parts on that vehicle are expensive.

I think you already know the answer, which is to pass on it.  You may easily spend several times the purchase price in repairs.

You will have issues. Believe me when I say that. I own a Mercedes, I know 10 people who have one. They are money pits and they break. The one your looking at is a 2001. Chance are the maintenance hasn't been done. That's why people get rid of them at 100 k. most likey you will have to replace the conductor plate and and adapter. Diff fluid, Coils, plugs, wires, maf,  map, secondary air pump and sensors. Valve cover gaskets, manifold gasket,. crank sensor, cam sensor, catalytic converter, purge valve, throttle body gasket, pedal position sensor o2 sensors and Egr. If you cannot do the work yourself it cost around 4000 to 5000 dollars maybe even 5250 to have the work done. These items are know to fail or to go bad around 100,000 ish. If you planning on buying it talk them down 3500 dollars and have a MERCEDES EXPERT only look it over completely. Oh if it has air matic that goes bad  or starts around 120,000 miles as well that can cost upto 3000 to replace the whole system. Worst Case you might have to spend almost 8 Grand to fix it.  If the other parts I didn't name go bad your talking over 11,000 Dollars total that includes only half of the electronics.

Even tho I know Mercedes, I work on them alot I still had issues. I even used my laptop with star equivalent. Still couldn't catch the things wrong. Things just go wrong with German cars. I had to replace my conductor plate and adapter, plugs coils and wires, crank sensor, cam sensor, 2 o2 sensors manifold gasket, map sensor and valve cover gaskets. All that stuff went bad within 4 months of buying it. Since I can work on the car myself and I'm able to get parts half off through a contact it still cost me 650 to fix. If not it would of cost 3,000 3500 to fix At dealership. 2000 2500 at a private shop. Prices are just very basic estimates but still are around what you may pay for repairs. .
