Mercon fluid Change

Hi, I have a 1996 Ford Mustang 104k 3.8L manual t5 transmission that Indicates to replace the transmission fluid with "MERCON automatic transmission fluid." 6.6qts I have looked and cannot find plain Mercon fluid, I can only find Mercon V. Both my owners manual and shop manual say that you cannot use regular Mercon in place of Mercon V, but can you use Mercon v instead of Mercon? I have also read online that the fluids that are Mercon/Dexron just cause problems and should never be used in any vehicle. So, Should I keep looking for Mercon, use Mercon V, or the Mercon/Dexron mix? Thank you

According to this PDF by Ford Motorcraft, they recommend using Mercon V fluid for your T5 transmission. Yes, you can actually use ATF in a manual transmission if the manufacturer calls for it.
