Toyota Tacomas are the gold standard for reliability.
Ford F-150s aren't what they used to be after the GM-Ford 10-speed automatic transmission dilemma. They had nothing but problems with them and they were recalled for transmission issues.
Toyota Tundras also aren't midsize trucks, they're full-size trucks. Same with the F-150.
If you're talking about the new Ford Ranger, I've heard mixed things. It's a 4-banger. It puts out 300 horsepower, but it has GDI and a turbocharger. If you tow anything substantial for a long time, it will prematurely wear out. If one wears out sooner than the other, it will act like a dog.
