incorrect odometer

So I bought the car and it had 116 thousand miles on it. Then I was trying to sell it and turned out they ran a Carfax report and it shows it has 244 thousand miles on it. The engine is pretty good but could this be why all the struts were bad and I had to replace the water pump and all this other crap that keeps popping up?

True. But I don't know how I would of known the odometer pushed back. But all good I'll just let it sit and try to work on it and drive it til it fails cause I can't get anything good for it because of this mileage difference

Clarification: Which vehicle?

Obviously, a 244k vehicle will have more wear than one with 116k.

But a water pump could easily fail at 116k, and struts don't have a terribly long lifespan either (depending where and how you drive).

I recently changed my rear shocks at around 40k.

My next car I vow to to check everything

Man that stinks. I'm sorry to hear that.

In the future, I would take the vehicle you are interested in to a good mechanic. They have high-level scan tools that can read the mileage off the ECM module. Usually that's the real mileage. Only discrepancy would be if the seller replaced the ECM module as well. Most don't.

Thanks man. It's ok some times you just gotta take that L. I'm not gonna let this stress me out it is my fault. Yeah I will definitely do that next time. I just posted a video maybe you can help me out with that sound.

It probably needs to be done at a dealership, or shop that specializes in programming

So I bought a car I thought had 117,00 on it but tried to sell my car and they called me and said it really has 244,000. Is there anyway I can put it back to the 244,000? It's a digital odometer.

Clarification: Which vehicle? Each question should mention Year, Make, Model. Thank you.
