Mini Cooper turbo failure

Hey Scotty, I have a 2012 Mini Cooper S, 91k miles. The turbo blew and an original BMW turbo costs well over 1000 dollars. Is there an aftermarket alternative I could buy or is it even worth fixing the car? I have a standard transmission and the rest of the car is in excellent shape and I would do the repair myself. What do you recommend?

From what I have seen those cars are exceptionally difficult to work on. If feasible to do the work yourself and the turbo housing is OK, maybe rebuild it with a new cartridge?

From the research I have done rebuilding a turbocharger is difficult work to do correctly and if you don't do it correctly the first time goodbye bank account.

Today it’s the turbo, tomorrow it could be something else.

Are you willing to rebuild the engine, if it goes out, next?

It all depends on if you’re willing to shell out $$$, to keep up with the money pit experience.
