Hey all I am majorly confused!
My car is a 2017 Jetta with 45k miles and I'm trying to troubleshoot an engine knock. I have done the basic maintenance, and now I'm trying to locate the MAF sensor so I can clean it. Everything I've seen online shows it can be either a removable sensor, or inside the throttle body. I can't find anything specific to my car though. The car parts shops don't show any parts or schematics and apparently neither does the VW service dept. The best VW gave me is that VW uses a manifold air pressure sensor, but nothing specifying MAF. They ran my VIN and a part number found on a sensor in the turbo air flow tube. He couldn't explain it very well, but said that it may be the part I'm looking for. Is that a legitimate option? Everything I've seen so far shows that the sensor should be right behind the air filter.
Check the function of your MAP sensor, not the MAF sensor.
If it has one the MAF sensor is located on the round tube after the air filter but before the throttle body. Check the AutoZone website for a picture and price.
The 1.4L TSI doesn’t have a MAF -

Thanks for your help. I'm guessing the discharge tube is the tube (the smaller tube going to the turbo) that's sitting next to the primary air intake. Assuming that's the case, now to see if it can be cleaned like the MAF can.
I'm also assuming an inefficient MAP can get dirty and hopefully cleaned to improve performance instead of automatically needing replacement.
Thanks for the help again. #15 does look like the location that VW service pointed out. Also thx for sending the video link. Scotty has so many videos that I tend to have issues finding the right one.
No worries.
Hey Doc, looking into your suggestions now. AutoZone didn't have any parts or schematic pics for MAF sensor. They didn't look for MAP either. AZ site shows MAP function is similar to MAF. Now to find a pic regarding location & if it can be cleaned to improve performance like the MAF can.
One thing, you didn't say which engine you have. This is getting nuts. I checked several sources and VW shows a MAF #06J906461B for $350.00. Odd thing is none of the local parts stores show any MAF sensor for your car. Sorry I couldn't be more help. The MAF measures air flow in cfm into the throttle body. The MAP measures vacuum pressure inside the valve cover, two totally different inputs to the car's computer.
The turbo engine would have a completely different system because of the forced induction. Which engine do you have?
1.4 liter turbo charged
The turbo doesn't have a MAF.
MAP Sensor
VW - 045E906051 - $111.67
Auto Zone - Duralast - SU16178 - $114.99
Sorry about the confusion. I keep forgetting that VW is specifically stupid in their nuanced designs, even within a line.
This is probably why Rock Auto doesn't sell ANY VW parts, at all.
