Should I buy an old Volkswagen GTI

I've been looking to get a MK2 Volkswagen GTI for either a project car or just something fun to zip around in. I realize it's an old vehicle, but is there anything I need to specifically look out for in those vehicles?

Back in the day, I knew quite a few Golf/GTI/Scirocco owners. Besides the usual mechanical problems with anything of that age, you should probably look for and be prepared to fix a variety of electrical and fuel injection problems.

Here's a promising forum (there are many more) https://www.volkswagenownersclub.com/forums/gti-mk2-1985-1992.176/

This can be a challenging era of car to work with, as they have substantial electronics and pollution control items, but don't have OBDII to give you the codes that tell you what needs to be fixed.
