what are the 5 most common sensor failures in passenger vehicles?
i have a 2005 subaru outback ll bean 3.0 with 250,000miles, northern new england miles. i love prolonging the life cars and will probably dabble with this car until the transmission decides it is done. with this old car in mind, which sensors tend to fail first?
thank you thank you!
02 sensors usually go first. Not sure I could really give a top five specific to your vehicle or really a top five at all, but 02 sensors for sure are at the top of any list.
thank you @Mod_Man
This is for vehicles in general, but I’d say O2, TPMS, coolant, knock, MAP/MAF sensors, with O2 and TPMS being more common to replace.
thank you @daywalker .
I would not have even thought of a tpms, but it is very true in my experience - they fail quite often!
As an update from what I have researched, I would put at least these four under most important for overall car function:
1) Coolant
2) MAF
3) Knock sensor
4) O2 sensors
As far as most common to fail, or which to replace on a regular basis, I am sure that is dictated by make/model, but I would love to know!
