The most ‘reliable’ ones are the ones you lease and return before the bumper to bumper warranty expires.  Anything that goes wrong you throw them the keys and have them fix it.  I would not keep the vehicle past the bumper to bumper warranty because with all the fancy, overengineered German tech you don’t want to pay out of your own pocket if they act up.

I'd say the ones made in Germany, for germans. But in the US market, you're looking for the best of the worst. Rule of thumb would be the less tech and electronics they have, the better. But even the base models are packed with tech. If you absolutely want to buy one, get a lot of money and have some in spare.

Here you go -

On an unrelated note, Ali G, is that you?!

8 years isn't too much they generally start to fall apart right around 6-8 years old so be careful I would look into a lease before even considering buying one. I would stay away from the more cheaply made ones like the 2 series (similar to the Mercedes CLA and A class piles of junk). At least 3 series and up. If you have to buy one, get a used one like you said 2018 2019 model and sell it before 5 6 years pass by.

Good luck!

None. They are all unreliable as they age. Sad but true as I really like their cars, but keeping them on the road costs a fortune.

I find that BMWs are relatively reliable, BUT they cost an arm, leg, and torso to maintain and repair.

I have purchased: a BMW Motorcycle R75-6, 2 325i's and 2 X-3's with 3.0 Ltr. straight 6's. The Cycle was a 1975 and had already had some overhauls; but I had it for 5 years. I bought both 325is for my Son; {who has NO mechanical aptitude} He was in an accident, and totaled that one. His second one was previously owned by a {piss poor} shade tree mechanic. All of the problems, that I had to deal with were from this horrible mechanic. I bought both of my X-3's used; the 2005 was 3 years old and I had it for 12 years. I made many performance improvements; and followed many of Scotty's maintenance tips.
My newest one was 8 years old and had 80K on it when I bought it. It has 86K now. I am replacing ALL fluids incrementally; and performing all recommended periodic maintenance functions. I just replaced the spark plugs.
I am a little older than Scotty and I expect that this will be my last Bimmer.
