So I just got a good deal to replace my motor mounts. Now I'm just wondering the guy said it's three motor mounts that he's going to replace. I wanted to change all the mounts but he said it's only three and I said it was six. So I'm going to change the three motor mounts now I was wondering won't I have to change the trends transmission mounts as well? Is it okay to change the engine mounts right now and then change the transmission mounts at a later date?
They are usually all replaced together since the engine and transmission are bolted into a single unit on most cars. If one or more mounts are bad things may be able to move around enough to damage the new ones.
I would do them all at the same time. If some are worn, then it won't be long before the ones that are ok now wear out. So better just to do the whole job once and be done.
