Mr2 spyder. Buy with Mechanical failure or sell engine?

I Want to buy a mr2 spyder (manual) and do a 1ar swap. Wondering which would be cheaper in the long run: buy a cheap one, good body, and has mechanical failure/damage (since I don’t need the engine or transmission), or pay a bit more and get one that runs fine, and then sell The engine and transmission? My point is will the good engine and transmission be worth that much if I sell them? Would they sell easily? Any idea how much I could expect for them, so that I could adjust my budget accordingly?

Honestly as long as you find a clean shell you should make out OK either way. I wouldn't count on selling the factory parts for too much though.
