I drive a 2017 Kia optima lx, 2.4 L engine and it holds 5.1 quarts. Can I just buy a bottle of 5 quarts and pour just 5 quarts in and not put in that 0.1 quarts? Over time will it damage anything in the engine? Thank you

When it says it holds 5.1 quarts of oil, it really means that the oil pan holds 5.1 quarts of oil. So filling the engine up with exactly 5.1 quarts of oil will get you exactly on the "full" mark on the dipstick. Just don't add more than 5.1 quarts of oil.
Correct amount of oil is important, follow manual. i.e. use the dipstick to check level. With oil and filter change, 5L oil is probably more than you need for a 5.1L capacity system (all the oil doesn't come out).
if the oil level is within the hatched area on the dipstick, it can't do any damage.
Must put exactly what manufacture calls for always check dip stick first thing in the morning for accurate reading
