I'm thinking about getting a 2005 ford f150 lariat with the 5.4l 3 valve engine. Only has 134,000 miles and a "brand new transmission" according to the owner. they're asking 6500. Is this truck worth my time?

Bit high on price imo but location is a factor.  If ya need a truck, the F150 is a great choice.  However, I'd be looking for less miles and bit newer.  Never a fan of the 3 valve personally...2 or 4.

They have invested $3500 in a remanufactured transmission by the sounds of it...ask for documentation...it may have a transferrable warranty.

Not an unreasonable price.

My personal truck is a '05 F150 XL, 2 wheel drive, super cab, 8' bed, 225,000 miles, 5.4, with a factory reman 3 year unlimited mileage nationwide warranty transmission I installed. It's a reliable beast.

probably a brand new used transmission.  you are rolling the dice.

I had a 04 lariat and it was the best and worst thing ever firstly I ended up having to get a new trans $3400, then I had to replace the timing setup chains and all, I did that myself $900 a few gaskets here and their $200. Coil packs and spark plugs $380 spark plugs are $13 each and you’ll need 8 and your a fool if you don’t use OEM on 90% of the parts for that motor. I had to replace the ac compressor, condenser, dryer, a ac line due to a valve being stripped out, and the radiator because it started leaking. Lastly I had to replace a bit on the engine harness. I got to truck for dirt cheap and I ended up selling it when I had it working. That was a really big money pit thankfully I didn’t loose a tone of money on it.
