Hi I have an mx5 1.8 vvt 2002.
I have had an engine rebuild done where the engine got bored out for bigger forged pistons, forged rods, forged crank new hardened rings etc brand new head with stronger valves and lifters etc but since putting the engine in it is making a rattling sound. I am really reluctant to pull the engine out when the engine is brand new however it does sound very mechanical and gets louder/faster when accelerating. I have a video put I can’t see a place to add it to this question. Any suggestions?
thanks Mark
Unless your engine rebuilder totally messed up (possible, but less likely), I'd talk to the person who sold you the new head and/or the person who installed it (are they the same person/shop?)A new head should have well-adjusted valve train, VVT and a quiet cam chain. On an MX5 with a rebuild, the only sound you should hear is from the exhaust.
Try putting your video up on your Google account (ore get a gmail/Google account) and getting a link from there to put in here.
