Hey. Code 43 is the only code. It cranks no start after 40 of diving and idling well. Then a little hiccup or 3 second rough moment and I've got 5 minutes to find a long wait. The more you try to start it the long3r the delay and the more the battery will need jumping. Leave it alone and starts up nice. Jump it and the start up is rough and idle off. I thought .maybe oil fuel cut off , temp sensor switched outis the last thing done. New coil, everything in the distributer, starter, 2 batteries, heater unit and only high defrost fan blows, the hose leading to the air filter housing was off and replaced, fuel pump rus and filter replaced 4 ys ago, plugs started to be replaced and 3 plugs replaced in tune up 4 yrs ago were two difficult to get to and just redently one was found to be free floating with plug wire on. Those from before. And modulator before. I am disabled and don't do hands on but I'm studying.Got the service manual and diagnostics wiring manual. Didn't know I needed the Fuel Emissions manual. Alternators tired and tensioner I'm told im broken. I have some dash digital malfunctions and someone took all the interior bulbs and alarms disconnected with some fuses removed. Replaced fuses. Nothing blown but I know some fuses considered less important were switched and used for blown ones and not replaced. Bought scan and adapter at $80 on temu and found it juice work I was told. Check Engine light always on and there were 4 codes now only 43. I need less people helping in the theory of what is the delay time fore?

Try starting the engine when the throttle is wide open (pressing on the gas all the way). If it starts, it's a problem with the fuel injectors flooding out the engine. Replace them with OEM units.
OBD1 code 43 for GM is a knock sensor error. I don't think it would prevent the engine from starting but it's something that would need to be addressed.

Obviously do the simple test that @justin-shepherd suggested, if you're lucky it might be as simple as a dripping injector. If that is the case you should also see excess carbon and maybe even some gasoline on spark plugs as well.
Another fairly common problem that fits your symptom would be a failing crank position sensor. Those frequently will fail when they get hot and then start working again when they cool down before they fail entirely. On most vehicles with a tachometer you should see the needle bounce when cranking if that sensor is working.
That thing is so old it could have any number of issues. If you have access to a Tech2 scan tool or can pay a mechanic to scan it with one it might reveal more information.
