My 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe LS was running excellent idle ,fine engine start ,fine shifting in automatic transmission, oil level and pressure good, transmission fluid good and good color.... so why when at stop sign took foot off of brake was engine all of a sudden in Neutral or so it seems I was l not in neutral When this occurred I was in drive no thrusting when shifting at all
Scan the transmission for any codes.
Hopefully it’s just the transmission control module which needs replacing. Otherwise it may be really expensive to fix.
Take it to a good mechanic and get the correct diagnosis first, before you start spending serious cash for an old vehicle like that.
Did any other gears engage such as reverse? Your 02 Tahoe has Rwd, it very well could be differential related as well. One way to check is to put the parking brake on and put it in drive and check to see if your rear driveshaft is spinning freely. Another way is if you engage the 4wd if yours is equiped and functioning and see if the front differential make ls the car move. Be aware Ive had this happen to me before and the 4wd worked and the rear end was shot. Be sure if you try this that you dont drive with 4wd on dry pavement, just use this as a way to see if its your rear axle or your transmission. Correct me if Im wrong, going off experience.
