I just bought a used 2011 Toyota Rav 4 with 115k miles. I’ve noticed that when i stop at a stop light or sign it goes from 1 rpm to about 0.5rpm and starts to shake for like 2 seconds then goes back to 1rpm and stops shaking and runs smooth. Its fine when I accelerate it only does this a few seconds after i stop. No idiot lights or check engine lights coming on. Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?
Did anything suspicious show up during the pre-purchase inspection? Have you scanned for codes and live data?
Low-hanging fruit at that age and mileage would be vacuum leaks, filters, spark plugs, and fuel pressure to start with. You might also try cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle body.
Thanks for the reply, thats what I’ve been considering as well. We purchased the vehicle from carmax and it is still under their 30 day warranty, so ill have their mechanic check those out for me.
I dont have a scan tool, i know that autozone or oreillys does code checks but im not sure if they would let me look at the live data

Better to have your own mechanic check it out. That should have been done before purchase.

Checking codes and data are necessary first steps in diagnosing most problems in modern cars.
