[Solved] AC discharge hose

Topic starter

2000 Chevrolet S10 pickup 175k miles automatic transmission no codes. I just have a simple question. How fragile is the AC discharge hose at the compressor? Is it unsafe to move the compressor when both hoses are still attached Even if I do my best to keep the hose from torquing at all at the compression fitting? If it goes over the fan shroud how likely am I to cause a leak trying to take the fan shroud out when I have to jockey it around the hoses coming off of the compressor? How many inches in my allowed to lift those hoses up above the shroud so I can get it out and not damage the hose and cause a freon leak? Do I have to evacuate the system even just to take a fan shroud out?

you do not need to evacuate AC to remove the fan shroud

What about when moving the compressor out of the way to get to the power steering pump below it? Can I leave the hoses on it and the freon in it but just carefully (meaning avoid bending hoses as much as possible) lift the compressor up and set it on the motor?

That's what I do if an AC compressor needs to be moved out of the way to do other work. Whether you'll have any problems depends on how careful you are and the condition of the hoses.
