Hey Scotty! I badly need Help from a professional like you.😭 I have a car with a carbureted engine. It starts 1 click, no problem. But once I get to roll out, park my car, and leave it for a few minutes, it takes a long time for me to even start the damned thing! What's worse is there are times that it dies out on me while on the road. I can't afford not to hve it working aince it's our family car. And I would like to know what the possible problems might be since I'm getting mixed opinions from different people like, the fuel cutoff solenoid, fuel filter, have the electrics checked.... Please help, I'm lost. Our car should be a reliable family car and not a money pit!😭
Starting every time with a cold engine and stalling/ hard starts when hot are indicators of a rich running engine. My 1979 Catalina had similar problems until this week. My carburetor was out of adjustment and I also had a pair of loose spark plugs. When your car is fighting to start, push the pedal down to the floor and hold it as you crank. If your car starts quickly, you're getting too much gas. This usually means a dirty carburetor, a carburetor that is out of adjustment, or it's worn and needs replaced or rebuilt. Mileage and make/ model of your car would be really helpful for further diagnosis.
Year, make, model? In the U.S. carbs have not been in use for 30 years now. If that carburetor is original you can bet it needs to be rebuilt.
A quick thing to check is that the choke is opening up all the way when the engine is warmed up. Also check your spark plugs. Their condition can tell you a lot about what's going on.
