  • My dad is searching for a luxury sedan that has good reliability since he will be retiring soon. He is considering an acura tlx type s with the big v6 engine but he is worried that it won't last because it's turbo charged. His buget is 60,000 dollars without tax. He currently owns a camery v6 from 2004 and only has 116,000 kilometers on it.

Get Lexus ES350.

Hi,

His buget is 60,000 dollars

Assuming US dollars and US pricing,

If he wants the best driving experience, the Lexus IS500 is a blast with it's huge 5.0L V8 connected to the rear wheels (and it exactly fits the budget).

But if he wants something bigger and less insane, a "Lexus ES 350 Ultra Luxury" is cheaper and still has a dependable 3.5L V6.

You can probably have a similarly good experience with a Toyota Avalon, and they're cheaper, but it really depends on what he's looking for. (Size? Driving experience? Price? Dependability?)

Acura TLX Type S

I'd wait a another few years before going with Acura because their 10 speed transmission just came out and no one knows if it'll have the same issues as the previous generation. But, as I see it, it'll probably be decently reliable.

He choose your response and he will wait a year or two to see if the tlx's tranny has any problems but he loved the is500 and might choose it for the v8 and his love to toyota.

Yup Lexus or Acura

I vote for a nice Camry Hybrid, and a few non-consecutive months in Hawaii and/or Europe - that's what I'm trying to do (darn Covid).

Luxury cars impress your friends, neighbors and family - impress them with your capability to give/lend them money!

60 grand?

go to hemmings and get a caddy from the 70's or a T-bird

my choice would be a 72 Eldorado convertable!

My vote:  Slighty used Lexus LS460 or LS500.  LS models are available in 'stretch' versions indicated by the "L" at the end of the model name for instance LS460L.   There are also hybrid versions noted by the lower case "h" at the end of the model name such as LS500h.

My vote is Cadillac CT4-V or CT4-V Blackwing.
