My personal preference would be the Honda Civic. Todays Honda Civic, is the the size of the Accord two decades ago.

The Accord isn’t a bad choice though. I currently drive a 1999 Honda Accord. And it has nearly 280K miles on it.

Which Subaru did you have in mind?

If you want to keep it for a long time I would also suggest the Camry since it has regular automatic transmission rather than cvt or being turbocharged. Not that Honda turbocharged is bad, but in general turbocharged puts more strain on the engine so can impact the longevity.

The 2023 Camry with 2.5L engine and standard automatic would dominate both the reliability & comfort categories of new cars in that price range.

Take a look at a Toyota Camry or a used Honda Accord from the previous generation back when they offered the 2.0L turbo engine.  Honorable mention goes to a used Toyota Avalon (since they stopped making it).
