Corolla engine compatibility

Hey Scotty,

I bought a used Toyota Corolla 2000 about 13 years ago. I didn't pay much because I knew there was a problem with the engine. Two months after I bought it, my mechanic got me a 2008 engine with only 1700 miles. I told him my car was a 2000. He told me not to worry, it's a Toyota, and better than that, it's a Corolla. I haven't had any problems at all and it's getting close to 100,000 miles. The AC cools great, heater, etc. In one of your videos I heard you said "forget swapping out a different engine". I don't know what my mechanic did but for sure I know he didn't put a computer for a 2008 engine. I know now it was possible but I don't understand how. It has passed the State Inspection every time. What is the magic about Corollas?

I did some research and found that those generation of the Corollas had the exact same engine on some trim levels (the oil consumption issues fixed on the 08 one) and an engine from the same family in other trim levels, so it isn't that different. They are all 1.8 engines anyways.

Well corolla's you same parts for many years in a row and you got lucky so you could swap one for the other like if one corolla had a 1.8 l engine odds are the other one if it was 1.8 would also fit
