Hi Scotty:
huge Scotty fan here! Please keep the great videos and content coming.
I rarely allow the fuel tank on my 2016 CLS400 4Matic drop below 1/2 tank. And never below 1/4. I thought it’s advantageous to not wait until your tank was empty before refueling. But I’ve heard what I’m doing isn’t good practice. Can you advise me on whether this is detrimental to my car in the long run, please?
By the way, thanks to your advice, I never top off my tank.
Thanks,
john
modern fuel pumps shut themselves off to prevent burning out too.
It's not good to fill the tank beyond the point when the fuel nozzle clicks, but I have never heard the advice that you mention. Who said that, and what is the supposed reason?
Seems as if my approach to keeping fuel in my tank is spot on. The advice I was given was from someone in a MB forum (of course). I’ll listen to Scotty over some self-proclaimed expert any day!
You are doing a good thing. The fuel helps to keep the in-tank fuel pump cool and helps it last longer. I do the same on all my vehicles.
Some people argue that if you do not run the level low you'll get a rust line in the tank from the gas, or that crap will accumulate at the bottom of the tank and the one day you do run it low the pump will suck it all in and it will be The End of Days. Nonsense really.
You are doing right. Keep on keeping on my friend.
