I have watched so many of your videos. I recall the one saying that ram/chrysler don't buy cause you have to be a certified mech .to work on them. Thats what you hated about chrysler and no other companies did this cause they got so much negative fedback when they tried this.  explain?  also. looking for a used truck under 100000 .2020 ish in year

BEEN A chevy owner all my life but not sure bout the 5.3l motor..  what brand should i look at? hauling 3,500 lb bass boat with truck .

Yeah the Toyota is nice but $$$$ an gas mileage is horrible.

That's going to be with any truck, you can't have it both ways. It's a body-on-frame vehicle with a high center-of-gravity. It's not a Prius. Don't expect it to be easy on gas, because it's not going to be.

That's a light boat. If you can do without the 4x4 and a tow package. You will get slightly better gas mileage. Tow packages generally come with a more aggressive final drive ratio (a "taller" gear ratio increases torque and sacrifices gas mileage) My 2014 F-150 has the tow package and it has 3.73:1 gear ratio. Non-4x4s can have a 3.31:1 final drive ratio, which is more similar to a car than a truck.

pia to work on alot of times.

That's compensated for by rarely breaking down. Toyota makes a quality car/truck.

i was never a ford fan but i do  like the coyote engine but i do not like the fords 10 speed trans.

Run the heck away from any Ford F-150 with those GM-Ford 10-speed automatics. If you want an F-150, get a pre-2017 5.0. That was the last model year that Ford produced the 6R80 transmission, it was based on a ZF model that Ford received a license to build in 2011. Most of the kinks were worked out by ZF and Ford before Ford phased it out.

@justin-shepherd YES WAS never a ford fan ,Like i said before i owned 3 chevy trucks and all were good thats then.. though!!

No problem. Did you accidentally down vote me? Those arrows are options to upvote or down vote, and maybe you accidentally clicked one. The system alerts me to how you voted (indicated a down vote).

@justin-shepherd I might of ... how do i change?

Tacoma probably

mY buddy has a tundra and its a BEAST!!  @imperator Yeah the Toyota is nice but $$$$ an gas mileage is horrible. pia to work on alot of times. I have owned Chevy trucks all my life. I am afraid to get a 5.3l . my current truck is a 1500hd with 6l in it but its getting up there in miles. Anybody haul their bass boat with either the dodge ram with 6 cyl.  or hemi  ? i was never a ford fan but i do  like the coyote engine but i do not like the fords 10 speed trans.

The Tacoma costs less than a blown engine or trans

With a 3,500-pound bass boat, just go get a new Tacoma. Yes, it is a turbocharged 4-cylinder, but it can tow 6,400 pounds in SR5 4x4 Crew Cab configuration.

@anthony-zingale Not really looking new, and i am not a small truc guy anymore. Had one for atleast 10 years .

To answer the question about 4x4  i live in Pa. and a Truck aint a truck unless it is 4x4  we get bad weather alot. The towing package includes intercooler for trans and other things. I have watched so many videos on trucks and most were ram vidoes cause of the present chevy 5.3lifter failure , not a fan of fords 10 speed trans i do like that coyote engine , toyotas are nice but sticker shock . so i have thought about the rams more . I just watched a video yesterday that the guy said if your towing just get the hemi cause from all the uphill battles with the engine   high revving and winding of gears in the pentastar leads to more wear than normal?   My buddy has a newer frontier but not really a small truck guy no mo .

@chaney Then in that case, I would look into a Ram with the Hurricane Inline-6. Doesn't have the cam problems that the Hemi has, plus it's more powerful and more fuel efficient. 470 foot-pounds of torque is more than enough to pull the boat and is 60 more foot-pounds of torque than the Hemi V8.

I heard rams hurricane was built different and built the engine for turbos not just added them on? I also was afraid of the new engine thing right now. And not looking new.

No biggie. You fixed it when you clicked up vote. Off to the left are a series of arrows. Clicking the "up" arrow indicates you have a positive reaction or the answer is accurate.

Normally, we reserve down votes for postings/responses that are false or misleading. None of what I said is false or misleading. Haha.

If you want to try a 5.0L Coyote, a 6R80 transmission in an F-150 (Pre-2017 models only) is going to be your best bet. That transmission is in my truck and it's gone 170k miles trouble-free. Owners of Coyote V8s tend to rag the heck out of them, though. Pay a mechanic to check it out, if you go in that direction.

Good luck.

By the way, in case you are not familiar with Ford's transmission lingo, the 6R80 is a 6-speed transmission. My old Ranger had a 4R44E automatic transmission. The first number or numbers in the transmission's model number at Ford is the number of speeds in the transmission. You could also get a 5R55E in the 4.0L V6, for example.

In the 10-speed, the model number is a 10R80. Stay away from any Ford with that transmission model number if you value your money.

@justin-shepherd Whan year did they stop putting 6 speeds in their trucks 2021? i think. Would you know what gears would be best in Fords f-150 with coyote engine and 6 speed?

Ford discontinued production of the 6-speed automatic in 2017. Ford produced the 6-speed for the F-150 from 2011 to 2017, along with the Coyote V8, so anything within that range of model years.

I don't have the Coyote V8 in my F-150. I have the naturally aspirated 3.7L Cyclone, which is a V6. I don't like those EcoBoost engines that are being put into Ford trucks, and, like you, I really don't like those awful 10-speeds.

@justin-shepherd I never owned a ford , my brother is a big fan.

I was a fan, until Ford started putting out crap that hardly qualifies as a car. Almost every car I've owned except for a BMW and an HHR have been Fords. I noticed Ford started going downhill when I bought my Mustang when it was brand new (it's a 2017). The CEL comes on intermittently with P1450, unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum. I had a '99 Ranger for over 5 years and put 50k miles it before the frame cracked (it had almost 300k miles on it). I never saw that check engine light come on. It still worked, too. Between Ford being too cheap properly fix fuel injectors after recalling them and putting some stupid system in to detect fuel leaks, then that not working right did it in for me. I'm not interested in Ford Pinto 2.0.

@justin-shepherd my brother ordered a brand new 2018  f-150 raptor and he took it in for the 3 rd or so oil change at dealer,, and there was no oil in it!!! Here the computer was making it use oil .. so They fixed that and had to gat another oil drain plug cause it was plastic.. what!!! Putting a plastic oil drain plug in a 70,000 truck... lol.. I remeber my old buddy having a ford super duty and the head gasket blew, they had to lift cab up to get to it.. OH. My brother transfer case went out in his 2018 ordered ford f-150 at 70,000hats why i have owned 3 chevy trucks and all of them had over 150,000 when i sold. .
