Hi Scotty, I am going to buy a new truck but am wary of automatic transmissions. I plan on keeping the new Taco until I or it dies. Am I trading off one problem for another down the road by getting a 4x4? Do I need a 4x4 in SoCal? No, but it will be there if I need it. Thanks
It is just going to be extra weight that you are carrying around and if you don't use it much it shouldn't be a problem. You will just get worse fuel economy and less payload than the 2x4.
I wouldn’t fret much. Toyota’s 4WD are pretty good. So are automatics, and so are 2WDs. So, … if it is a new Tacoma your wish, … just get it - 4WD or not, automatic or not. All new cars carry a certain risk of turning out to be a lemon. Tacomas present, … just perhaps, a lowest risk to turn into a lemon?
Best,
F.S.
