Should I trade in my 2021 BMW sedan for a truck?

I have a 2021 BMW 535i xDrive with 51000 miles, and I think it’s a ticking time bomb.  I am interested in getting a midsized truck either a Toyota Tacoma or Honda Ridgeline; however, I am also interested in a Lexus RC350.  Obviously, I will be looking at used vehicles v. new with existing mileage below 50K.  I am retired, married with no kids.  From a mechanical POV are any of these choices a potential problem?  I like to keep a vehicle for 5 to 8 years.

Well you're right, Id get out of that BMW quickly to get some money back, that things depreciating as I type this. Tacos (slang for tacomas) are excellent trucks, but people want top dollar for them since they can last a very long time, way more than the 5-8 year range you mention. Ridgelines are good too, but definitely not as popular, can probably get a better deal on one of those. I dont know anything about that lexus, but scotty seems to like the brand in general, rightfully so, but they arent cheap. It really depends what you really want. Id road test them all and go from there.

Go with the Tacoma.  The sooner the better.

The fact that you're considering a sedan means you don't need a truck.

I will be looking at used vehicles

You probably can get close to MSRP when selling your car.

Also currently used cars are overpriced.

sell you car, get close to MSRP and look at new.

In this mileage range it's definitely going to be very close to the msrp for a new one so just pay a bit more and buy brand new. late model used is not worth in this market. While everyone said Tacoma and I like the Tacoma too and had one previously, but if you want something between a car/suv and truck then the Ridgeline is nice too. So depends on what you need the truck for.
