Hey Scotty, are the Silverado 2500HD 6.0l any good solid engines/trucks? I know the quality of the 1500 aren’t too well, but the HD are different. (Particular 2015-17) Also do these trucks last well over 200k+? Asking for a friend, thanks!
Yeah the 6.0's are great. If you take care of it yes they can. I think some of those have Allison transmissions, look for one of them, x1000 better than the GM
The 3/4 ton trucks are real trucks as opposed to the half ton models. Caution - find one WITHOUT cylinder deactivation.
I may be wrong, but I don't think the GM 3/4 & 1 ton trucks use cylinder deactivation.
@mmj You're probably right, you usually are.
All of the big-3 HD trucks can be OK to 200K if maintained well, but none is particularly great. They all have strengths and weaknesses, and I honestly don't think one is clearly superior to the others. [The only way to get something better is to get a 2014-21 Tundra, but that is obviously inadequate for someone who truly needs an HD truck.]
If your friend is looking used, then maintenance is key, along with how hard the truck has been worked. The upper trim models are often used as just daily drivers and not worked very hard compared to the contractor-grade units.
Appreciate it y’all!
