Nissan NV200 California Dreaming my check engine light will stay off

Hello Folks! Need Help. I am the original owner of a 2013 NV200. For years now the check engine lamp comes on and goes off (by itself). The code is PO456. I have changed the fuel cap, and this did not fix the problem. Now I am due for my first CA smog check and need to get this resolved properly. My mechanic has been doing some work to it, clears the code and has me drive it. The light still comes on a few days later at precisely the same time. Three attempts have been made by my mechanic to fix it, but no success. He says that his instrument shows no pressure leak in the evap system. He has replaced a few related parts, as well as the vapor canister purge solenoid. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone with the same issue? Is there something that is common with the NV200 I can suggest to my mechanic or check myself? Thanks!

Too bad you live in California and not in Tennessee where they don't do that bologna inspection. But somewhere you got a leak and they're so hard to find it can be a defective charcoal canister and or event valve gas tanker doesn't feel right many things. I start with a better mechanic your guy obviously isn't very good on eBay please

I may have to move at some point. CA has big problems. Scotty, if I decide to tackle this problem myself, can you give me a list of parts you would replace or inspect with most likely problematic at the top? Should I buy a smoke machine? I don't think my mechanic uses one. Thanks!

Your mechanic probably uses a smoke machine but not the one you're thinking of, especially before he works on cars.  It's called a Bong.  I successfully escaped from California 18 years ago and glad I did.
