Wasn't sure if this was a good idea. My friend is looking to sell his college starter car as he's moving out of town. Still runs and has less than 150,000 miles on it. He wants $1000 for it. It would be my first car.

$1000 doesn't buy much of anything these days. If a mechanic says it doesn't have any immediate problems it could be OK. If it lasts just a year you'd still be making out all right. Just don't put big money into it when it starts falling apart.
