No crank, car won’t start

Topic starter
  1. Hey Scotty. I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse with 163,000 and i have just noticed my car randomly no being able to start sometimes and It doesn’t crank and all i can hear is a click, so i think it’s either the battery or starter but when i turned the key on start and off like 5 times the car tried and tried to start and then it finally started. I went to autozone to get my battery tested and they said i have a bad battery but then i went to O’Reillys and they tested my battery, starter and alternator and they said the test said alternator error or failure. So at this point, i don’t know what to fix. i want to know what part to fix so i just done assume what part and it doesn’t fix my car, i just need to know what part to replace.

There are some tips in our FAQ

I just need to know which part to replace, so i don’t buy a part that is not going to fix the issue.

One place said it’s a bad battery and another place said it’s a bad alternator, so i don’t know which one to replace

It can be anything, we cannot tell from here what it is. Start with code reading, test the batery, fuel pressure ...

Get a new alternator, charge the battery back up and spark it.  If that doesn't fix it, I'd be looking at the ignition switch as well.
