I have a 2018 Nissan Frontier NP300, with YD25 diesel engine, not sold in the US. It has 45000 miles, 80% of that is highway mileage, manual transmission. I warm it up 5min every time, change the oil and filters every 5000miles, and recently installed a magnetic oil drain plug.
In the two oil changes after that, there were steel filings on the magnet, a small quantity. Pics or the oil plug. There is oily filings on the plug

Is this normal engine wear?

Well, next time you change it, if there are no filings, that's normal. If they're still filings, it's not normal
