yes i was wondering can i use a different brand or type of transmission fluid for my 2006 Toyota corolla Ce with automatic as long as the label says its compatible with the oem atf which was Toyota t-iv , i was thinking about switching to a different brand like Valvoline max life full synthetic atf or castrol trans max multi vehicle import both bottles say there compatible with the Toyota t-iv transmission fluid just was wondering if it would be ok thanks eric
You could go that route, but to be honest your best off just to stick with the OEM brand. Not to say the others are a bad product, but multi vehicle fluids especially for transmissions are just not what they’re cracked up to be. All that means is between different tested transmissions they have found a “middle ground” that works across different trannys. Some transmissions may be designed for a more viscous fluid, some less. Some may have more friction modifiers, some may require less. In a pinch if you were low or had a leak and needed a few quarts to make it home or to a mechanic it’s a great option. But long term your transmission will get most life possible using the fluid it was designed for.
I personally stick to OEM transmission fluid, for all my vehicles.
Why take a chance with an expensive transmission, since you don’t change the fluid frequently, unlike say, engine oil?
Transmissions are very complex, and I would just stick with OEM to be safe.
