Hello Scotty and others, I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 3.7L standard transmission with 132,600 miles. I change my oil on time all the time and use full synthetic. However, today I changed it and drained the oil but only got back half a gallon (2.5 quarts). I checked the dipstick before and was full and never smelled burning oil or saw any leaks. I put the néw oil in and the dipstick shows normal.
If you do not see the oil leak, the should burn it. Your engine needs to be rebuilt and I don't think it worth it. Make sure you check your oil level more frequently to avoid running out of oil.
How much oil is it supposed to hold?
What do you mean when you say you checked the dipstick before? How long before the oil change did you see it full?
@mountainmanjoe
IT takes 5 quarts and I drove home 5 hours for thanksgiving and I checked the dipstick before and was good. Last time I did an oil change was in March
