Oil Burning Subie

Hi Scotty!  My daughter has a 2009 Subaru Outback 2.5L engine, manual trans(!), 183K miles.  It burns a quart of oil every 700 miles.  Problem is that it clogs the cat.  The cat has been cleaned once and I've changed the O2 sensors.  Otherwise the car is pretty good.  We'd like to hang on to the car for another year or so until these crazy prices (hopefully) chill out a bit.  Do you think using the ATS chemicals 505CRO Oil treatment could help - more importantly do you think it will hurt?  Anything else I can do to keep the cat from clogging every 6-8 months?  I think rebuilding the engine would be too expensive.  Thanks!

The engine may well be worn out, but have you tried changing the PCV valve?

Good thought Chuck, I'll try that. Thanks!

If the rings are shot, it's not really going to help.

True, but I'm looking for anything that would help - and if a $20 PCV valve helps even a bit... A new cat would be about the limit of what we want to put into it, but I'm looking for anything that would/could help keep it from getting clogged again in a year. Thanks!

It could help if the piston rings are stuck not if they were worn out. You can give it a try.
