[Solved] Does my Tribeca engine consume too much oil

Hi, I have a 2011 Subaru Tribeca (3.6 flat six cylinders) with 120.000 miles on the clock. I change the oil and filter every 5.000 miles.

It consumes 1 quart of oil every 2.500 miles.

Is it excessive oil consumption?

Thank you.

It's not great. However bear in mind that in general manufacturers consider up to a quart per 1000 miles to be "normal" on new cars for warranty purposes and you are well below that. You could change your PCV valve to see if it improves. Also check for engine oil leaks.

I've already changed the PCV valve with a genuine Subaru one. Didn't change anything 🙁

I will follow Scotty's recepie, as long as it runs and drives OK, I will just add oil. I mean, it idles like a dream, doesn't shake at all and gas mileage is average for an AWD vehicle like that, 18 city 22 highway. A full engine reseal would cost a fortune. I will drive it until the wheels fall off.

That's the best thing to do, it's an old vehicle and those flat six engines can be real money pits as they age. Just add oil as needed, your oil consumption is not ridiculously bad. Ditch it when serious repairs are really needed.

Unfortunately, it seems to be a chronic issue with that engine...
