Hello,
Happy Saturday morning Everyone.
Honda Accord, 2008, Ex, 4 cylinder, 168,000 miles, mobile mechanic did all fluids change and found oil Leak in following areas:
1) Timing Cover
2) Oil Pan
Per him, there is no gasket but silicon job is needed for both of this, and car will need to be at his shop and put it on the lift to do the job and make it easier to dry for 24 hours. Total Cost quoted is $700.
I haven't been drinking much and has been six months since last oil change and has 70 % still remaining as oil change indicator. I added ATP 205 and added oil to bring the oil dipstick to required level.
Do you think it's legit to go through mechanic and get $700 silicone job done, or drive and keep topping oil as needed? What is effect on timing area due to the leak in the long run? Will like to keep the car until I can afford to buy one due to craziness called used car market.
Thanks for reading and thanks for answers in advance.
Have a great weekend.
Izzy
Your mechanic is wrong. Find another one. The correct timing cover gasket (yes it requires one) is available from Rock Auto for $6.40. Either live with a continual leak or do the right thing and fix it properly.
