Good day Scotty, thanks for all the videos, they help me maintain my fleet. I am having an issue with oil pressure and blow-by. I have tried to research, but can't seem to find something that resembles my issues. I am working with a 1985 Dodge Ramcharger, 318 2bbl.. mileage is around 150-160K engine was rebuilt around 120K. I have had the truck for over 22 years. Here is my issue I am lost on. Oil pressure starts fine when it is cold. When engine is warm, it does drop. This past weekend I got it out on the highway, first time in many years. Oil pressure was at 40-42 PSI at 2500 RPM. it maintained, but when RPM dropped below 2000 RPM, pressure would drop down to about 30 PSI, even lower, but not below 20 PSI when lower engine speeds. I do run manual gauges. Dash gauge didn't appear to run low, that's why I run manual gauges also. Fresh oil (running 20/50) less than 200 miles on oil change. Had an issue during my trip and removed air cleaner. Here is where I am lost again, found Oil in air cleaner, enough to cause about 1/4 inch in bottom. Was cleaned out when I changed oil. No doubt coming out of breather on valve cover. No blue smoke from exhaust. Bad pressure valve on oil pump? PCV valve is clean. Engine does not give out any indication of bad lifters or any ticking noise.
Here's the thing. Either your oil pump is wearing out. Not pumping enough pressure or your engine itself is worn out internally. Realize if an engine is worn inside then the oil has to pass through a larger space which will make the pressure drop. Conversely, if you have something that is restricting the area of the oil flows through the oil pressure actually can get too high because the small hole makes the pressure go higher. So you even need an oil pump or you have a worn out engine
