- Hey, we have a 2019 Mustang ecoboost. My wife drive the car 4 times a week to work, approx 8 miles distance from home to work 20 min drive. Very rear it will drive longer distance 20-25 miles.
- today the car have only 11,500 miles and we replaced the oil and filter every 6 months regardless of the mileage. Never skipped anyone, and we use premium gas as recommended by Ford.
- my question, can the car engine build an oil sludge because of driving short distances and have a low mileage?
At least once every two weeks, go out and give it the Italian Tune Up.

every year is enough
- an the car engine build an oil sludge because of driving short distances
Yes. The engine needs to get hot and it needs to stay hot for a while. At least every week or two weeks.
It's the same as a house (at least where I live). If you don't heat it, it gets damp and rotten.
Is any part of the drive freeway? Or is it all streets?
All streets with max speed 55mph
I think you are right at the borderline of creating oil sludge and/or burning it off.
20 minutes twice a day may get the engine hot enough. Then again it may not.
I know short distance driving Toyota Prius Primes have this problem, because the engine doesn’t come on long enough.
But yours is an ICE vehicle, so it is more than likely fine.
You can always check your oil cap. To see if anything funky is forming or caking on.
