Should I buy this 2004 Honda CR-V?

Hello Scotty. I am looking at a 2004 Honda CRV with 175,000 miles. The owner is selling for a family member who recently became sick and can no longer drive. He told me that he brought the car into a mechanic because the heat didn’t work and there was a small oil leak. He said both were fixed for $1000 total. After being “fixed” he said the heat still didn’t make the car hot, just warm. Because of the on-going heat issue he has dropped the price from the original $3500 to $3000. I am considering asking $2500. Other than described, the owner said the AC work, no vibration at high speeds, doesn’t burn oil (just that leak that was apparently fixed). What’s your thoughts? Is the heat and oil leak issues too much of a risk? Being in the northeast it’s important to have heat during the winters. I’m willing to work on the car myself to further diagnose and willing to spend a little money if needed. Thank you so much for your input! Also, is there anything more I should ask/check? I am planning to test drive sometime this week.

I'd run away from that particular 19-year-old vehicle.

I think you’re right, thank you!

If it passes a thorough pre-purchase inspection, for $2500, why not?

Don't skip the inspection though, and trust nothing the seller ‘claims’..

2004 Honda CRV. Owner is selling for $3,000. It has 173,000 miles. After driving the struts are noticeably bad. The oil light and check engine light is on. Supposedly the check engine light is on because of the gas cap and the code is nothing serious (definitely will check that out before buying). Oil light is on and SRS light is on. Are these things easy to fix or a deal breaker? I plan on having a pre-purchase inspection, but just wondering if anyone has experienced some of these issues before on a 2nd gen CRV! Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I agree with Chuck Tobias. It sounds like a poorly maintained, high mileage, 19-year-old car.
