[Solved] Oil/Sludge Near Engine Intake Manifold

I have a 2005 pontiac vibe with 146,000 miles. It had the original engine intake manifold gasket and when I went to replace it today (it was in really bad shape) I noticed some oil/sludge where the intake connects to. I'm new to this stuff so i'm not sure what its called but there's a picture of it in the link below. I was wondering if i should clean it and if it's something to be concerned about.

Your valve cover gasket is probably leaking.

Thanks. What should i use to clean the sludge though?
